In 1918, Emilio da Silva Braga founded in our city, what would become one of the best Stationary shop. Almost a century later, and now in the hands of the fifth generation, of the family, Emilio Braga Stationary continues to make the most emblematic of its products; the famous ‘‘Galocha’’.
A pocket-size notebook, totally handmade with distinctive and hardewearing spine and corners, bound in colourful fabric. It is the genuine Portuguese Notebook.
Family-run since Mr. Braga himself set up the company in 1918 they produce each notebook from their workshop just outside Lisbon (PORTUGAL). Crafted by hand, the notebooks are famed for their marbled covers and meticulously wrapped corners in bright colours. The edge of each page is hand-sponged into a distinctive pattern, ensuring that each notebook is genuinely unique.
Apart from a little bit of help from digital technology, these iconic notebooks have remained largely the same for nearly a century. Still a family business, they continue to produce notebooks including the famous “galocha”, nearly completely without the touch of a machine, and feature details often missed by more modern brands.
The process of producing each Emilio Braga notebook utilises glueing and sowing techniques that are over 100 years old. The spine and corners – crafted from cotton fabric – provide superior resistance and a stand-out look. The hard cover is super sturdy and the pages are a hand sewn. You’ll find a lined sheet inside to slide underneath your page to aid in the straightness of your writing. Maybe the best part though, are the hand-sponged page edges. Because of this, you can truly say that each book is absolutely unique.
